Booth Premiums

Beginning in 2015, the Junior Fair Board will no longer hold a booth competition at the fair. All exhibiting booths will be given an equal premium, to be determined. Girl Scout judging will include 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place ribbons for booth displays for 2015.

In Girl Scouting, the girl always comes first. She is the main focus of the program, where everything is directed toward stimulating her interests and meeting her needs. Through membership in Girl Scouts, each girl, age 5 to 18, Daisy through Ambassador, who accepts the Girl Scout Promise and Law, is encouraged to reach her potential and to attain the self esteem and self confidence needed to succeed in the larger world. The message is, “Become your best, set your sites high. You can make it happen.”

Fair Project Rules and Guidelines

  1. Girl Scouts consider participating in the Belmont County Fair a privilege and an opportunity to share accomplishments, interests and ideals. All entries must exhibit high quality in effort, originality and neatness. Entries should reflect, overall, the Girl Scout program and its ideals. Each girl’s entry will be judged on its own merits and not against other entries. The age or program level of the Girl Scout and the degree of difficulty and skill will be noted.
  2. Fair entries should be an outgrowth of a good Girl Scout program in a troop or camp, or showcasing the progress of each individual girl in pursuit of a hobby or interest. Projects must be made during the current registration year to be entered and must not have been entered in any previous Belmont County Fair.
  3. Judging ribbons will be awarded to each entry brought to judging according to degree of excellence: First Class – Excellent; Second Class – Well Done; Third Class – Good. The criteria will be “Is this an average, good or excellent job of workmanship and creativity?, Does it reflect the Girl Scout Program?, How much did the girl learn or grow in doing her project?”. A Girl Scout’s satisfaction will be in knowing she did her very best.
  4. Every registered Girl Scout Daisy through Ambassador) and every registered Girl Scout Troop in Belmont County is eligible to enter through pre-registration. Pre-registration deadline is July 31, 2015, for individual, group and troop registrations. Armbands to cover the cost of daily admission to the fair are available at a cost of $4.00 per registered Girl Scout and $8.00 per registered adult troop leader (limit 2 leaders per troop) for those exhibiting projects in the fair, provided all registration information and armband fees are received by the Girl Scout Advisor to the Junior Fair by July 31, 2015 and to the Senior Fair Board Secretary by August 1, 2015 by 5:00 PM. There will be no exceptions. Armbands are to be requested for exhibitors and adult advisors through only one Junior Fair organization.
  5. All entries, including booth entries, must be in place by 1:30 PM on judging day, which is Monday, September 7, 2015, to be considered for a judging ribbon or booth premium. All entries must be pre-registered prior to deadline (August 1, 2015). Items or booths displayed in Junior Fair brought after judging date and time will receive participation ribbons only. All projects must be in place by Tuesday, September 8, 2015 by 12:00 noon.
  6. Each exhibitor is permitted to enter more than one project; however, only one judging ribbon will be awarded per exhibitor.
  7. Group projects, entered in the fair by at least 3 girls working together in the same program level, will be considered and judged separately from individual projects, with a judging ribbon being awarded to the project and not to each individual working on that project. Scrapbooks or posters put together by adults are no eligible.
  8. All entries, including group projects, must have 3″ X 5″ entry judging cards attached to qualify for judging. The cards must contain the following information: Name(s), Troop Number, Level, Age(s), Project Name, Leader Name. Without this card attached, the entry will not be judged. Cards will be distributed to troop leaders by the Girl Scout Advisor to the Junior Fair once registration information is received.
  9. Exhibits are under the supervision of competent persons at all times and every effort will be made to protect them from loss or damage. However, neither the management of the Belmont County Fair nor Girl Scouts U.S.A., will be responsible for any loss or damage to exhibits.
  10. Exhibits must not be removed before 5:00 PM on Sunday, September 13; any troop or individual removing exhibits prior to that date and time will forfeit both premiums and ribbons awarded to the offending troop/individual and will be prohibited from exhibiting in Junior Fair the Following year. Exhibit will be released only to the Girl Scout entering it or to her troop leader(s) as stated on the registration form. Exhibitors should be informed of this rule. There will be no exceptions.
  11. Special Instructions: Art Entries – All painting, drawing, photographs, poetry, etc., must be of the original work of the girl submitting it. Murals that can be rolled will be exhibited only if space permits. All artwork, wall hangings and photography are to be matted or framed in some suitable form for exhibit, and ready to hang with wires, cords, etc., securely attached. Cooking Entries – All exhibits must have recipes attached (ingredients and directions). Cakes and breads must be entered in whole and will be cut for judging. Cookies candy or cupcakes must have at least 6 pieces submitted for judging. For displaying at the fair, items must have replica or picture of judged item on a paper plate with recipe attached. No perishable food can be used in display. Poster Entries – All poster exhibits may be no larger than 22″ X 28″.

Girl Scout Booth Displays

  1. Each Service Unit in Belmont County may exhibit projects from Girl Scouts within their unit in a Service Unit booth in the Carnes Center.
  2. Booth space for the 2015 Belmont County Fair is being held for Service Units by the Girl Scout Advisor to the Junior Fair Board and must be requested to the Ohio State University Extension Office by June 1, 2015. Size of space may vary according to number of projects to be exhibited.
  3. Each Service Unit will select a theme consistent with objectives, activities and accomplishments of Girl Scouting in each of their respective communities. Service Unit name must be attractively displayed on the base of the booth. Exhibits will be judged against other Girl Scout Service Unit exhibits.
  4. Booth exhibits must be complete and in place by 12:00 noon, Tuesday, September 8, 2015. The Carnes Center will be open from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM on Sunday, September 6, and from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM on Monday, September 7, and from 10:00 AM to 12:00 noon on Tuesday, September 8. (Please note: These are Fair Board times and do not override the Girl Scout Judging Day deadline of 1:30 PM on Monday, September 7.) Exhibits must remain complete until 5:00 PM Sunday, September 13. Again, No project is to be removed before release times listed. Violation will result in forfeit of troop booth premium.
  5. Booths are constructed of bare plywood and should be covered with background material. White paper will be available for your use; however, any color or type of material may be used. All other supplies and equipment needed for completing displays must be furnished by the individual Service Unit.
  6. Nothing may be hung from the ceiling and no paint is to be used on any part of the booth. The use of electricity is strictly forbidden.
  7. Do not use nails or screws in booths. Do not staple projects to your booth display, judges will be handling projects. Use tape, thumb tacks or staples. These must be removed when the exhibits are taken down at the end of the fair. All paper and trash should be deposited in cans outside doors, and area in front of booth is to be swept. Booth premiums will be forfeited if cleanup is not done properly. A Junior Fair Department Advisor must check your booth before you leave. All booths must be checked and approved for premiums to be awarded.
  8. Space will be provided for oversized projects that do not fit into individual club booth exhibits.
  9. Each club member’s name must be attractively displayed within the exhibit other than the project cards. Advisors names may also be displayed.
  10. Club name must be attractively displayed on the base of the booth.
  11. Booth exhibits will be judged according to the following point system:

    • Attracts Attention – 10
    • Presents Idea Clearly – 10
    • Neatness – 10
  • Material (30 Points)
    • Quality of Exhibit – 15
    • Attractive Display of Organization Name – 15
  • Effectiveness (30 Points)
    • Presents Original, Unusual or Striking Ideas Relating to Displayed Work – 15
    • Development of Selected Theme – 15
