ALL Junior Fair Market Rabbit and Breeding Rabbit projects must be in place by 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 6, 2016.

Junior Fair Market Rabbit Weigh-In is at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 6, 2016.

RABBIT SHOWMANSHIP

All exhibitors should compete in showmanship classes according to their age as of January 1 of the current year. Exhibitors will show only one rabbit of their choice in showmanship class. Members taking a market project as their only rabbit project should show one of the market rabbits in showmanship class.

  1. Senior Showmanship- 16-19 years (as of 1/1/15). **Senior Showmanship winner will compete for Master Showman.
  2. Intermediate Showmanship – 12-15 years (as of 1/1/15). ** Intermediate Showmanship winner will compete for Master
    Showman.
  3. Junior Showmanship- 8-11 years (as of 1/1/15). ** Junior Showmanship winner will compete for Master Showman.
  4. Master Showman – All current Rabbit Showmanship winners are eligible.

RABBIT SHOWMANSHIP RULES

  1. Exhibitors are judged on manners, knowledge and ability to move and pose the animal properly.
  2. The rabbit will be judged on condition, quality, finish, cleanliness of fur and condition of hocks.
  3. Each child must it and show their own animal.

BREEDING RABBIT CLASSES

B — BUCK D — DOE

Classes are divided by bucks and does for each of the following purebred rabbit breeds: Californian, Dutch, French Lop, Fuzzy Lop, Holland Lop, Mini Lop, Mini Rex, Netherland Dwarfs, New Zealand, Silver Martins, and Other Purebreds. All crossbreds will be judged in a separate class. Changes may be made to the above list of classes after livestock entry forms are received on August 1.

BREEDING RABBIT RULES

  1. All exhibitors are required to participate in Livestock Skillathon to participate at the fair (see General Livestock Rules).
  2. Rabbits must be owned and in the possession of the exhibitor by May 2, 2016.
  3. Rabbit registration papers are due in the Extension office by May 2.
  4. No health certificate is required. Animals will be checked for disease, etc. Animals declared diseased or unworthy of show will be dismissed from grounds by fair veterinarian.
  5. Rabbits with litters will not be permitted to exhibit at the fair, unless they are registered to participate in the doe and litter class.
  6. Exhibitors may show no more than two animals in a class. Only one market pen of three per exhibitor may be entered. Exhibitors may show no more than four lots in the show (a lot being one breeding rabbit or one pen of three or one doe and litter), i.e. three breeding animals plus a pen of three, or four breeding animals is the maximum or two breeding animals plus a pen of three and doe and litter is the maximum.
  7. Rabbits and exhibitors are placed first, second, third, etc., according to their showmanship and breed class.
  8. Breeding animals show by breed and sex. Best Buck will show against Best Doe in breed for Best of Breed. Winners of each breed class will return and compete for Grand Champion Rabbit and Reserve Grand Champion Rabbit.

MEAT PEN OF THREE RABBITS

  1. All exhibitors are required to participate in Livestock Skillathon and attend a Quality Assurance Training to participate at the fair (see General Livestock Rules).
  2. Meat pens consist of three rabbits from the same litter and must be of a meat type breed. One pen of three is permitted to be exhibited by each exhibitor.
  3. There will no longer be “Rabbit Round Up”. Breeding Rabbits, mother of Market Rabbits and mother of Rabbit Doe and Litter must be in the exhibitor’s possession by May w and registered in the Extension of ice by that date. Registration papers will be mailed to exhibitors after April 1. Tattoos are no longer required, but are encouraged for good production practices.
  4. Does should be bred between May 28 and June 3, 2016 in order for litter to be kindled between June 28 and July 3, 2016.
  5. If any one rabbit in the pen is disqualified, the whole pen becomes disqualified.
  6. Rabbits in meat pens must be weighed individually on Tuesday, September 6, 2016 at 7:30 p.m.
  7. Minimum weight of each rabbit is 3 pounds and any pen containing an underweight rabbit will have the option to stay at the fair and must be shown in showmanship class, but may not show in market class or sell at the Jr. Fair Livestock Sale. There is no maximum top weight, however, the suggested maximum weight of each rabbit is 5.5 pounds Rabbits in the pen should weigh as close to the same weight as possible.

DOE AND LITTER

  2. All doe & litter pens must be born from does that are registered by May 1, 2016 with the OSU Extension of ice. Does to be bred must be owned and in the possession of the exhibitor by May 2, 2016
  3. Does should be bred between June 23, 2016 and July 8, 2016 in order for litter to be kindled between July 23, 2016 and August 7, 2016.
  4. Rabbits shown in Doe & Litter class may not be shown in any other rabbit class.
